Early 2018 the fundraising began to replace our 15 years old minibus which was literally falling apart. ‘It was a long road’ to raise the much-needed fund to purchase the 17 seater bus, making Islington Boat Club more accessible for people with disabilities, school groups and to allow members to broaden their horizons with off site trips.

Funded by The Variety Club of Great Britain, The Bernard Sunley Foundation, The Angel Association, Partners of Islington, The 29th May 2961 Charitable Trust, Regents Canal, Argus Media and many very generous individuals the bus was presented on Monday 18th February to the club.

Speaking about the new bus, Lee Pollard Trustee of IBC comments: “The tremendous support from funders and the local community is a terrific boost for us as a charity, we are working hard to meet our aims which are to inspire learning, improve health, promote socialisation and strengthen the Islington community by providing a wide range of safe and affordable water-based activities for everyone – with a focus on young people, the over-50's and people with disabilities. Many thanks to all those involved.”

The bus took off on its first voyage on 22nd February, taking members of our All On Board programme* and young members to Sobell Leisure Centre for a trampoline session.

Despite the wet weather we had lots of our supporters turn up to thank both the Variety Club Golf Society and John Griffin.
We're very grateful for our lovely new minibus and she has already taken a group of our All On Board Club members to a sports centre for a trampolining session!
