About us Meet the team Meet the staff Meet the staff John Freed – Senior NB Skipper, RYA NH Helm Instructor John has been working at Islington Boat Club since 2004 working with the youth club, schools education and as an instructor. John has always enjoyed paddle sports of all kinds and has achieved a high level of expertise over the years, especially in slalom canoeing. He is passionate and proud about passing on this knowledge to today’s generation of young people. Jan Dorling – Office Manager Known as the Mother Hen of Islington Boat Club – Jan has been with the club since 1998. She is responsible for the running of the office and all things financial. Sarah Corcoran – Development Officer Sarah is a highly experienced fundraising professional with a proven track record in major account management, legacy fundraising and generating capital and revenue funding through trusts, statutory agencies and major corporate sponsors. Sabrina Boufadene – Kayak Instructor and youth worker Sabrina has been with the club since she joined as a youth club member. She has since come up through our training scheme and has been a very reliable and enthusiastic member of staff since 2016. Lewis Lee – Kayak Instructor and youth worker Lewis joined the club in 2011 as a youth club member and, like Sabrina, has been trained as a kayak instructor. In 2016, Lewis became a valued and much liked member of staff. Sarah Rex – AOB Inclusion Project and youth worker Sarah joined the club as a member in 1986. She has worked for the Boat Club in many capacities over the years and now works on our AOB Project. Sarah also works for the Bridge Secondary School. Darren Greenwood – Sessional youth worker Darren is a sessional youth worker/instructor who progressed from the ranks of the youth club to staff member. He has rapidly accumulated much valuable experience from working in othercentres both in London and abroad. He is planning to continue with his international expeditions to further his personal development as a team leader and Instructor. Jamie Greenhalgh - Sessional kayak instructor Jamie is a recent addition to our team and already proving himself to be a very well experienced coach. He has qualifications in white water so we are hopeful we can take some white-water trips in 2017-2018. Connor Armstrong - Sessional kayak instructor and AOB project worker Connor has also recently joined our team and has been working specifically on our AOB Inclusion Project. Connor has previous experience with Inclusion at Laburnum Boat Club and has already formed good relationships with AOB members. Robin Oakley - Sessional instructor Robin has worked at Islington Boat Club since 2013. He hold high level qualifications in all aspects of coaching the water sports we offer and in mountain biking from the British Canoe Union, the Royal Yachting Association and Bikeability. He is First Aid trained.Robin’s hobbies include watersports, cycling and bushcraft. He has taken part in a singlehanded transatlantic sailing race, holds the Guinness world record for the furthest distance paddled in a dragon boat in 24 hours and has represented GB at world and EU dragon boat championships. Ruth Gungadoo - Sessional instructor Ruth has worked at Islington Boat Club since 2013 and is a Level 2 Paddlesport Coach, Mountain Biking leader, Level 2 Powerboat Instructor & Narrowboat Helm. Ruth currently leads on our UpperDeckers programme for people aged 50 plus. Ruth enjoys sailing, walking cooking and sewing.
